Getting started for new customers

Welcome to the Knowledge Base for DOTHEHOSTING.COM.

Please go through the following documentation before using any services of DOTHEHOSTING.COM.

We assume that you have purchased a hosting plan and received our welcome email with account logins and DNS information.  If you have not received a welcome email with logins, please contact support immediately.

Once you go through following steps you can easily setup your site with DOTHEHOSTING.COM.

When registering your domain you have 2 options to point the DNS to our servers:

OPTION 1: Domains registered with DOTHEHOSTING.COM

If you requested DOTHEHOSTING.COM to register your domain on your behalf then DOTHEHOSTING.COM will have already pointed your domain to the correct DNS servers.

OPTION 2: Domains hosted but not registered with DOTHEHOSTING.COM ( Transfer your Domain )

When registering your domain you need to update your domain DNS at your registrar site. In order to do this, you need to contact your domain registrar and ask them to update the DNS information using the following information provided in your hosting welcome email:

PRIMARY NAME SERVER: ns1.dothehosting.com
PRIMARY NAME SERVER IP: 69.56.174.18

SECONDARY NAME SERVER: ns2.dothehosting.com
SECONDARY NAME SERVER IP: 69.56.174.19

It can take between 24 to 48hrs for the domain DNS information to be completed propagated.

Before proceeding further, make sure that your domain DNS is updated and propagated as per step 1.

You can access your domain CPanel using following URL’s:

Note: Replace yoursite.co.za with your actual domain name.

You will be asked to enter your username and password which you can find in your welcome email under the “ACCESSING YOUR WEB-SPACE” section. Once you login to control panel you can create email accounts, sub domains, MySql Databases and much more. To learn about cpanel features please follow the cPanel Manuals link under the ‘Support’ menu item.

To publish your website (ie. upload the files from your local computer) to your account/server, you need to use one of the following options:

There are many tools available for use. These are just a few options where you can download and install them to your computer:

WS-FTP – http://www.ipswitch.com
CuteFTP – http://www.cuteftp.com/products/cuteftp/index.shtml
SmartFTP – http://www.smartftp.com

Before uploading through your FTP software, it requires the following details.

FTP SERVER NAME: ftp.yoursite.co.za or Server IP (Can be found in your welcome email)
USERNAME: Your control panel username (Can be found in your welcome email)
PASSWORD: password
UPLOAD DIRECTORY: public_html

Note: Replace yoursite.co.za with your actual domain name

Your home page must be placed in the “public_html” directory and must be named “index.htm”, “index.html” or “index.php”. This is the file that the server looks for when someone types your URL: http://www.yoursite.co.za in their Web browser.

If you designed your site using Microsoft Front Page, you can directly publish the site using Front page.
To upload to your site, you need to know these few things:

FRONTPAGE SITE: http://www.yoursite.co.za (Can be found in your welcome email)
FRONTPAGE USERNAME: Your control panel user name (Can be found in your welcome email)
PASSWORD: Password

Notes: Replace yoursite.co.za with your actual domain name.
FrontPage will not work until your domain DNS propagated to our server. It may take 24- 48 hrs for full DNS propagation after you update your DNS.

You can also upload files using the cPanel File Manager.

1. Login to cpanel ( http://www.yoursite.co.za/cpanel )
2. Click on the ‘File Manager’ Icon
3. You should see a list of files and folders.
4. Click on the “public_html” folder icon to view the files in that folder.
5. Upload your files to that folder using the “upload files” link.

If you have any doubts or troubles on uploading files through Front Page, FTP or the cPanel File manager please don’t hesitate to contact us by logging a support ticket at http://www.dothehosting.com/contact-us or send an email to [email protected]
